We headed down to Milwaukee Thursday, January 24th to finally celebrate Christmas and Dylan's birthday with the Rudzik clan. We were finally well for long enough and the kids had that Friday off from preschool. I was a relatively uneventful trip (dare I say the easiest yet) down to Milwaukee with our traditional stop a "the gas station with the toy cars" in Wisconsin Dells. Dylan loves to hold the Garmin and pretend he is navigating where we should be going.
We arrived at Grandma and Grandpa Rudzik's house just in time to have "make your own pizzas" on really yummy whole wheat thin pizza crusts. Dylan and Hannah were anxious to open some Christmas gifts. They were told they could each open three gifts and they were more than happy with that! They had fun playing with their new toys and it wasn't long before Hannah was dropping the cloth flowers down the clothes shoot and wanting to go downstairs to retrieve them and throw them down again:)
Hannah had a bit of a cold starting so we set up her humidifier, got into our jammies and headed to bed to get ready to for more Christmas fun the next day!
After we woke up Friday morning and had breakfast, we called Great Grandma Rudzik and Uncle Larry to come over and visit while we opened gifts. Once they arrived we headed downstairs to start the flurry of ripping wrapping paper and flying tissue paper from gift bags.
Grandma, Grandpa and Great Grandma Rudzik loved their new bowls (hand painted literally by Dylan and Hannah). Grandma and Grandpa loved their table centerpiece bowl and Grandma loved her mug for work (all hand painted by Dylan and Hannah). We also gave Grandma some Godiva chocolates and a candle/holder with a dragon fly on it for her bathroom.
Dylan and Hannah go lots of great gifts! The gifts included: a fort making kit, a Green Bay Packers jersey, Belle tutu/teapot/teacup, stuffies (a monkey for Dylan and a unicorn for Hannah), Secret Spy Mater talking/driving/shooting toy, baby Cinderella, cute outfits, activity books, scissor, crayons, Care Bears movie, Thomas the Tank Engine movie, my little pony talking/stuffed/story reading, a noise making bulldozer and a noise making back hoe.
While Hannah napped Daddy, Mommy and Dylan went for walks in the snow by the woods and down by the water. When Hannah woke up (4 hours later) we continued to play with our Christmas gifts and visit until bath and bed time.
On Saturday we had plans for Mommy, Daddy, Dylan, Hannah, Uncle Larry and Lily to go to Discovery World. We had so much fun learning about water, fish, boats, simple machines, guitars, building equipment, lightning, energy and race cars. We even ate a little lunch there (hot dogs). Dylan couldn't get enough of the exhibit with model locks that a toy boat floats in/through. Hannah stepped up to wheel of a huge ship they had, grabbed onto it, started pretending to steer the ship and said in a low raspy voice,"Aarrgh. I am pirate." It was a quiet ride back to Grandma and Grandpa's house since everyone was so tired. So tired in fact that Hannah took a 4 hour nap while Dylan and Lily played.
"Aunt" Sarah, "Uncle" Karl and Alana came to spend the afternoon and evening with us. We had fun building forts, playing hide and seek and putting our new Christmas gifts to good use. Hannah and Dylan gave "Aunt" Sarah a library themed t-shirt (since Sarah is a librarian at MSOE) and some Godiva chocolates. Hannah and Dylan gave "Uncle" Karl a bunch of cool Star Wars toys/candy holders, a Star Wars box to keep them in and some Stella Artois. Dylan got snow shoes and a remote control truck, trailer and race car set. Hannah got snow shoes and a princess activity book.
For supper we had ham, cheesy potatoes (Daddy's favorite), green beans and fruit. A chocolate cake with chocolate frosting was used to celebrate Dylan's birthday!
We all went to bed exhausted having had a wonderful time:)
The next morning we got all packed up and ate breakfast with the intention of getting on the road early due to snow and ice on the way. However, we needed Grandpa's assistance with fixing our loose battery cable before we could go anywhere. We finally got going around 11:30 after a little lunch. The ride home was filled with not so nice weather, two tired and antsy kids and tired mommy and daddy also:( It was all worth it though! We had an awesome belated Christmas and birthday for Dylan!! We look forward to our next trip to Milwaukee (especially Dylan and Hannah who ask almost daily if we are going to Milwaukee soon).
