This has been a terrible year for colds and flu! From about mid-January until now, all three of us have taken turns with nasty colds and stomach flu! I am looking forward to at least a week of us all feeling good (hopefully in the near future).
It is so hard when Dylan is sick because I don't think he understands why he doesn't feel good and looks at you like,"Can't you help me feel better?" You feel so helpless. Dylan had a nasty cold for two weeks straight and then got the stomach flu for another two weeks.
Dylan's stomach flu started out with vomitting (only once, but all over the one large rug we have in our upstairs) and the diarrhea lasted almost two weeks. We called the nurses line and they suggested lots of fluids (obviously) and a bland diet with very little fiber (saltine crackers, white bread, white rice, chicken, applesauce) and no dairy except yogurt. I had to go buy all of the simple carbs (saltine crackers, white bread, white rice) cause we don't keep that kind of stuff around the house ever. So for a week and a half we were trying to get Dylan to eat this bland diet. We went to the doctor after feeding him this bland diet, that left him hungry 30 minutes later, for what seemed like an eternity because we thought he might also have an ear infection. He didn't have an ear infection but we did find out that this bland diet they used to have people eat when they had diarrhea was the "old way of thinking". Unless you are vomitting as well, you are better off to eat when you normally would to get the most vitamins and nutrients you can and the virus will run its course (diarrhea, etc.) in its own sweet time. Dylan seemed very happy to have his ordinary food back that was much more filling.

I actually had a doctor once that told me instead of the bland diet to do a high fat diet when they have diarrhea...I don't remember the reason though :\
I hope Dylan is feeling better soon!
